What benifit will a minolta D lens give to the Dynax 5,other than the flash to subject calculation. Will the other functions on the 5 work ok if i used my sigma 28-80 aspherical macro or minolta AF 100-300 xi lenses on the 5?Also will the AF suffer?

The Dynax 5 should be used with D encoded lenses to ensure full functionality of features, this does primarily mean the ADI flash metering. It is not as critical as the Dynax 7, where for example, the Navigation Display is requiring the presence of the D encoder to register information for the Honeycomb meter display, the Depth of Field readout etc.

The use of either Dynax 5 or Dynax 7 with non D encoder chips is possible, however the camera will not have full functionality with regard to any feature that requires the D chip to operate. Focusing speed and accuracy is
not affected.
