what should i be looking for, for a morning that is nice and misty low bur up high is clear.
I guess clear sky at night and cold, is that right? any tips please.

Mild,warmish days and a cold,clear night I think.
Failing that, the weather forecast after the
ten o'clock news Smile

Justin has it right, I think.
I always find that the best conditions are when it has been raining the day before and it starts to clear as the sun goes down. Make sure conditions are still, i.e. little wind as otherwise the mist will soon be blown away.

If you could accurately predict that you could make serious money.
I just set my alarm, get up before dawn and hope for the best.
Where I live we seem to have a micro climate all of our own and weather forecasts bear no relation to what actually happens.

One obvious thing to mention is that you'll find mist around areas of water and also marshy land. When conditions are right, as the sun rises so does the mist.
