mystery backup

I've got a DVD with very large files called backup.001 and .002 They date from 2005 and contain photos I believe. However, for the life of me I can't remember what software I used to create them and I suspect they contain a long lost folder of pics.

I've downloaded trials of the following but none recognise it:

Acronis TrueImage
Norton Ghost
Paragon various

A zip programme offers to open it for me and extracts a file just called backup with no extension and asks what to open it with.

Anyone any ideas on a programme that will at least let me view the file names contained in the file or otherwise explore its contents please?

They aren't back up files are they, for re-installing OS or the likes?

Hmm, but my Win7 doesn't recognise them either. Mind you back then I was using XP or maybe Vista but Win7 should be backwards compatible?

They could be back up files, that we are prompted to burn to disc by the PC/Laptop's manufacturer - ACER always ask you to do it - or did.

I don't think that owt else would recognise them - just a thought

I'd marked the disk as photos but like an idiot not with the program that I used! I might try loading XP on a virtual drive to see if that recognises the files.
