Niagara Falls
I was amazed to see the news reel shots of Niagara Falls frozen. I wouldn't have thought something as massive and powerful as Niagara would freeze but some of it has and pictures are quite wonderful

At the end it mentions that the building of the embankment(s) the flow of the river was speeded up which reduced the tendency for it to freeze over.
