As you may see Im new to this forum so I will may it quick.

I have the above lens and find that its extremely soft when used with a D2X but as sharp as a daisy when used with the D70.Anyone else have the same problem.

I've used mine on a D100, D200 D80 and D2Xs without problems ... whats the D2X like with other lenses

How much in camera sharpening is being applied by the D70??? To compare you need to be sure that both D70 & D2X are set to same file format & Both have Sharpening set to None.

For a serious test use RAW File Format, With all options turned off OR None, And both cameras in manual mode only.

I find this lens to be great with the D2Xs, but I have only shot Raw, which I process through C1 with the sharpening turned off. I then use Photokit sharpener to apply capture sharpening and output sharpening when printing etc. Works great and this is as sharp as any lens I've used.
Larger file sizes will highlight any technique difficulties - why not post a couple of examples.

The D2X will be much more demanding of lens quality than the D70. For some others' experience of that lens, have a look here

I didn't know daisies were sharp.
Best be careful on the grass!
I use this lens for about 80% of my shots and I dont find any problems with its sharpness when on either my D200 or my D70. I do apply a small amount of sharpening in CS2 or C1 but that is a matter of course for anything digital.

likewise with me, I use it with an S3 and I only sometimes use PS. In fact I like it so much that I am going to get shot of my other Nikkors and get the 70-200 2.8.
