Nikon 40mm macro lens

Quote:You can always use an extension tube with that 105mm f2.5 and the tubes are reasonaby priced on Fleabay.
Some yes - some no - depending on what features you want to use.
Cheaper "dumb" tubes do not AF and may not meter or stop down the aperture.
The Kenko type with 7 contacts AF with the 2 short tubes but do not AF reliability with the longest tube. Meter works though. A UK price is in the region of £125.
A weakness with the Kenko tubes is the ones for both Nikon and Canon "droop down" when the longer tube is used - not ideal for anything other than central sharpness.
The Nikon solution is a TC-E converter. Provided you do not expect focus to work well with focus starting at infinity to be OK for 1:1 focus distance, AF is quite good with a 1.4 Nikon converter.

Probably the deviation is down to me....(not the first time I`ve put my hands up for that)...but I use a manual focus micro nikkor 105mm f2.8 on a spare dslr body and also with a nex adapter on my sony a6000....the point being the working distance at max magnification is far more useful than any 40mm or 50mm/60mm macro.....The lens in question actually out perfoms my very expensive 105mm f2.8 ED af Micro Nikkor as auto focus is more of a hindrance with close focus for me.....sorry if I confused any one.
