Nikon 50mm f/1.4 AF-D + D80. Results?

Hi, just a quick question for those that know.

I'm extremely tempted by Nikon's 50mm f/1.4 lens; I've heard so many fantastic things about it. I was just wondering, however, what kind of results I can expect it to deliver when using it with the Nikon D80, my current camera body.

I know the lens delivers fantastically with the D300, but I haven't eard anything about its use with the D80. If anyone has anything to say on this, it'd be cool to hear.

Thanks,

Josh

Just wanted to make sure you really do mean the 1.4 D and not the 1.4 G (The 'G' is the silent wave version and generally believed to be pretty good)

Yeah I mean the D version. Can't really justify spending the extra hundred on the G version. I had to convince myself the f/1.4 was worth the money over the f/1.8, let alone going the whole way for the AF-G version.

I have the Nikon 50mm f1.4 D and I use it with the D80, it has become my favorite lens.

I also use it with my Nikon FM3a with excellent results

Get the 1.8 - and save the difference towards yet another lens.

You will NOT be disappointed.

I don't want to wish I went for the alternative though... Such a hard decision.

The G lens isn't suitable for use with manual-focus bodies, whereas the D lens is. Some of us use both AF and MF bodies.

The f1.8 lens in either MF or AF versions is a fine lens and amazing value for money. You pay a lot for the extra two-thirds of a stop, yet few people really need it!

There is (effectively) no difference. In fact, there are reviews 'out there' that come down on the side of the 1.8 over the 1.4.

Up to you. Money-spend doesn't make the image...

Nikon 50mm f/1.8 D....Fab lens works like a charm on my D700 too.

I'd save the price difference on the f/1.4 and put it towards a " Decent " zoom, Or something with more flexibility than a prime....!!!

Or maybe even a body upgrade...!!!!!

Though I'm still having doubts, hahaha. Guess i'll just go with it. If I'm not happy I'll just return it.

Ta again.
