NIkonD7000 Speedlight

I have a Nikon D7000 (very nice!) A friend has given me an old Nissin360TW Speed light and I am wondering whether it is ok to use with my Nikon.
In the Nikon user manual it says you should only use Nikon speedlight but is that just because they want to sell me their products or what, I am wondering?? I need to be sure I can use the Nisssen or not.

Does anyone out there know the answer please?

I have a D7000 and bought an SB 700 which works like a dream iTTL etc. Recently bought a second gun to use them both off camera and chose a cheap Yongnuo 560II. It also works perfectly (not iTTL, but off camera I am on manual) so I suspect that the Nikon manual is trying to tie you into their stuff. Nikon stuff is excellent, but expensive and unless you are a pro using all day, everyday I find the third party stuff more than adequate.
