What would you recommend instead of Norton, guys? I need to renew my subscription in the next week but, quite frankly, Norton 2006 was the last decent software they did. 2007 was useless, and I don't want to pay for 2008 because of the poor reviews.
Any advice appreciated,
Thanks

Spysweeper and Avast are what I use.
There are more than you can shake a stick at out there. Kapersky is well represented.
Norton was good many moons ago but now has gone pear shaped in that it grinds a machine down and chucks files all over the place.
There are some that update themselves while some rely on you to check.
No harm in having a couple of the freebies that are around although they are not as efficient.

I use McAfee. As a virus scan and firewall it's fine, but like Norton it has a few 'bolt-ons' that are a pain. One is site-sweeper (I think) which checks all websites against their database before opening them. If you get McAfee, do not say yes to site-sweeper!!
