I recently bought an old Gitzo gilux tripod , at the top of the legs near the base plate it has the notches to alter the angle of the legs but has no button to press to change the angle, so my question is...is it possible to change the angle or do I have to purchase different legs?

Might Gitzo have used the same type of legs for several different models?

I have a couple of larger versions of the same design. The legs are designed to splay no further than in the picture.

i'm wondering if I can modify the top of the legs so that I can adjust the splay?

Can you reverse them, there looks to be a bigger gap at the back?

There’s a point, can the leg bolt be taken out and leg itself twisted 180 degrees and bolt re-inserted...?

Seems strange they’d have indented steps, but you can’t use it/them...!

Can the leg(s) be pulled downwards, against a spring retention, to step over the first step to the second..?

Like you say, I’ve found on similar “stepped” leg angle choices, a button which lets this happen...

Thank you for the replies....At the top of the leg the bolt is rigid, i have tried undoing them and turn the legs round but when turned around the bolt holes to not match up. There is also no spring retention.I have also thought about extending the length of the hole on the leg but if I do this it will require undoing the bolts slightly adjusting the leg then re-tightening the bolts which would be quite time consuming

Then I revert to this comment...! phew...can Gitzo themselves shed any light...?

I very much doubt that you will be able to modify the legs... Gitzo more than likely used a common casting for the centre, maybe you could keep an eye on the auction sites for a similar series with the mechanism (it is a simple metal slide with a knurled knob on the outside) where the centre casting is damaged and use the good bits of each...
