Olympus ORF Files - Arrgh

Is ORF a grotesque middle earth character - no that was an ORC but it seems similiar.

So i'm trying out shooting raw and Jpg in Olympus land, but its fighting back.

If you use lightroom to import the files if spend ages scanning each on only to tell you at the end its not importing them - Nor the jpg files along with each ORF. When i do this with Canon's CR2 i get both raw and jpg

So two main questions ?
- Does/can Lightroom handle olympus raw files?
- How can i get LR to import the files - JPG and raw. (if i just shoot JPG LR does import the files)

For a bonus
- Where can i see a description on file sizes LF LN MN SN
LF = Large Fine - most detail
LN = Large Normal
MN = Medium Normal
SN = Small Normal ????
RAW = 16 bit - But no reader apart from a specialist piece of software from Olympus that i need to register my serial number against. Still not sure what this gives me.

Many Thanks,
Stuart

What versions of Lr and Ps are you using Stuart and what camera ?

You might need a software update or later version or maybe the camera if it is new might not even be supported just yet.

If you in a fix you could try Adobes DNG converter.

I have the OMD M5, M1 mki and M1 mkii. Lightroom and CC doesn't have any problems ether with import or opening the RAW files. I don't shoot JPEG. I suspect you don't have the latest version of the software or you have the settings in LightRoom set to "don't open suspected duplicates" maybe. I hope this helps

Its LR5 - I checked it for updates - but said it was upto date.
The camera is OM-D E-M1 Mk2

I tried an import with duplicates but |I'll give that another go later too to be sure.

I didn't want to have to buy the latest CC from adobe to use the camera Raw.

Many thanks

You need lightroom 6.8 for your camera... without upgrading the only option is the free DNG converter from Adobe.

As I recall you can just enter any number as a serial number for the Olympus software

Or if you don't want to go the subscription route you could try ON1 RAW 2017

Thers is also a Photoshop plug in (if you're compatible) I've never tried it though.

The problem is that even the latest version of ACR cannot deal with E-M1 Mk2 ORFs yet - you can find considerable debate on this on the DPReview M43 forum. As others have said you need to use the Oly software or convert to DNG till a new version of ACR becomes available.

Latest version of Lr should support this camera now Stuart.

But if you don`t feel the need to update I`d just use the DNG Converter.

Thanks Josh,

I've downloaded and installed CameraRaw_9_9.exe - how can i now encourage LR 5.71 of photochop CS6 or Adobe bridge to let me use these new ORF file handlers.
Of is it really a case of LR etc just won't let me use the latest version of camera raw and thus the Orf files i want to open?

Many thanks
Stuart
