I understand that the XD is a standard media type developed by Fuji and Olympus and that they should be compatible with any XD compatible camera, but are the Olympus XD cards that support Olympus Panoramic functions completely compatible with Fuji cameras (s5500 in particular) or is it best to stick with an OEM card.

I'm sure that they are all the same (I think they are made by Hitachi). It's the camera that writes the information.

Yes they are but the Olympus Panoramic function only work with Olympus cameras. Otherwise there are compatible I use both XD cards. John

Yes they are. I use an Olympus 256mb card in my Fuji F700 as does my mum and have no problems. The Fuji will disable the panorama function on an Olympus cameras as there is some firmware on the card that is needed.

PS - Have a look at Amazon for cheep XD cards

As mentioned the Olympus xd cards do work in Fuji cameras. Check picstop for good memory prices.
