second day with 450d lost a good few pics today must have set image protect in error yesterday

Surely that is there to stop you deleting photos not to stop you taking them?

had 2gb sd card . not use to 12mp yet i was just snapping away as normal reviewing image now and again just assumed if image came up on lcd it would be written to card but soon found out when downloading to pc that is not the case still you live and learn

Isn't there a menu option that stops you taking pictures if there is no card or not room on your card. There was on the 1D series and I thought it was common across the range

every dslr ive had has the stop shoot with no memory card feature , very handy leave it turned on all the time

I understand (from a local camera shop) that most DSLR's arrive with the setting 'Shoot w/o card' turned ON. This is for demo of the camera in the shop. If a card is installed I do not know if it will write to the card. Is the write light flashing after you take a shot?

It will on a Canon 20D, be surprised if it was different on the xxxD series
