Once again (!)..............

(1) PM has nothing whatsoever to do with email.

(2) You can only be sent a PM by another registered member. The PM system is fully under the control of the forum/website management.

(3)With PM you cannot be spammed or sent viruses or other unpleasant attachments.

(4) You put your email address on the internet at your peril. Once someone gets your email address they can, even if (say) they were banned from ePz continue to harass you.

(5) That cannot happen with PM. If someone were blocked from ePz they would no longer have access to the PM system.

Any more questions.... feel free to ask! Wink

Carabosse is correct. :-( Although some do have both a PM and an e-mail facility. Here in a group I visit, they use both. In the second and third post, you can see MP (private message) and e-mail. You can't see it because you have to be logged in, but even if you click on e-mail, you get a box up to write your message in, but no e-mail address is visible. As you can see, everyone has PM enabled, some have e-mail enabled, some haven't. Obviously, you need to log into a site to read PM's, e-mails go straight to your mail server.
Carabosse, a phpbb site, it's quite a new site, all set up within 24 hours.

Indeed you can have both PM and a 'hidden' email facility.

But given the probs on ePz with email I suspect the latter is not something that would be welcomed. Once you reply to an email sent through the site you email address is revealed.

That can't happen with PM.

Yes, it's pretty easy to set up a phpBB site. I prefer Snitz but only because I am very familiar with it.... and they have better standard smilies!! Lol!! Wink

However, Will has said that change to new forum software "isn't going to happen" so it is pointless pursuing that aspect.

However, Pete agreed (ages ago) in principle to PM.

Its great having the initials PM as I do, but now I feel everyone is talking about me:-(

I find PM on other forums useful for a quick call me/email me to make contacts and preserve personal information.

I have re-read the thread similar to Kit-monster, and have seen the benefits available with a member/site based PM facility, I can see the points and benefits that Carabosse {much as it chokes me to admit Wink, is that another fiver towards the Hasselblad with digital back} puts forward.
If Will can write it into the site then I'm sure it will be useful, if not, well you can't miss what you never had.

Pete, I'd gladly send you an email, but Lookout Express is giving me problems just now and keeps crashing so much it's up and down like a bride's nightie

as for viewing the rec.photo.* hierarchy on the NGs, I'm still using Outlook Express &I only look at rec.photo.equipment.35mm and rec.photo.technique.nature (along with uk.rec.photo.misc from the uk.rec.photo.* hierarchy). Given the number of flame wars and level of troll infestation on r.p.e.35mm just now, it's not really worth bothering with (my filters take out about 75% of the content before the body of the messages gets downloaded). r.p.t.n only has around a couple of dozen or so posts a day, mostly of the "look at my photos" variety or discussion of USA nature reserves. About the only one I pay much attention to is uk.r.p.m and that's a very poor substitute for ePz

I've copied the same message into you other thread

Gentlemen, do have a fine day !

Please, do excuse me for writing you this way, but there seems not to be, in your page, a link to send messages over to you.
My question: How can I get in contact with Mr. Neil Leifer, photographer to Mr. Muhamed Ali ?
Back in 1964 I was allowed by Mr. Ali himself , to take some photos of him while he was training in Miami, Fla.
I would like to send to Mr. Leifer a print of one of them photos.
Thanks for any help !
