Photoshop; today's update.

The new one's v.22.
I have Photoshop set up (unlike Windows!) not to automatically update. Instead, I installed it via the "updates" button on the toolbar which I do with all of the Adobe updates.
So far though, it's not working properly so I'm not impressed.
In fact, I reverted to the previous version to finish some images. I might try it again tomorrow.

A friend who works at professional image retouching says they never update PS until some months after releases because there's always bugs that aren't sorted out.

I think quite a few people think that way and given the problems that I've been having with Photoshop of late, it's probably not a bad idea.

There are some known problems evidently and there are work-around listed here
https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/known-issues.html
One which may apply to older computers is that there is an update (which I don't understand not being a computer nerd) but to do with SSE v4.1
Their suggestion is to back date the program to the previous incarnation (guess that is what you've done Jester).

Quote:Just checked the Adobe Creative App and updates are available but I think I will wait until things settle. What are the improvements supposed to be?

ALl you need to know here, Dave.

I think that the only real problem is that they have gone for a slightly higher spec on the Graphics card in order to facilitate some of the new 'workings'.
Mine has loaded fine and except for the real tussle of getting the screen exactly how you like it, even tho you ask for them to save settings, it has gone very well and there are some interesting and novel extras, such as the fine colour tuner, which may or may not be a help! They have brought in a special section for Plug-ins, and are offering again Pixelsquid for free but at the moment there are a limited number of objects for free, a watermark, and a connection to Drop-box. These are all free but the fourth, 'Retouch Ninja' is around £20.
Upgrades are for all the Adobe programmes in the Photography packaage, including Camera Raw, Lightroom Classic and Lightroom.

I completely removed the Preferences folder from its home and built new ones for both of the versions that I've now got installed.
I've also uninstalled and reinstalled it three times now and finally everything's working as it should except that the "spacebar/move" trick no longer works.
It's a bit annoying but I can live with it.
More importantly, the crop overlay is now working as it should; which wasn't the case with any iteration of v.21, despite Adobe blaming my woes on an aging graphics card, although they may still have a point as I have to keep the Graphic Processor switched off, otherwise the programme crashes.
With hindsight, I've always had it switched off anyway.
I haven't really used it in anger yet but the sky replacement thing seems a bit "kiddyish" and the masks don't seem able to recognise the edges of the rooftops in the few images that I've used it on but I think there's room for refinement with a bit of effort.
It's a function that I might want to use occasionally, so I'll be interested to hear what others think.
