Capture 1 Express v6 as raw converter. Link to obtain it free (doesn't come cheaper than that)...

Try Paintshop Pro X3 as an affordable alternative to Photoshop. There are a few tutorials and postings on youtube, but nowhere near the amount compared to Photoshop. All of these programs take time to learn how to use them effectively, so once you decide, try to stick with it, or you'll be forever switching from one to another and never mastering any.

If you wish to learn how to use Photoshop and obtain it heavily discounted, look at your local college/adult learning for 8 week evening courses. Registering on the course allows you to get a substantial Student discount off Photoshop.

Are you aware that you can get a fully featured version of photoshop on a student/teacher licence - just on the off chance that your student somewhere (part time is good, and the course needn't be photography related). If you shop around this can come in around 150

Absolutely right and for most people does everything that Photoshop can do......Smile

Sure there are some freebies out there, You have tried one already aka Picasa.....!!!!!!!!!

But lets get real, If something is any good at all, It usually has a price tag.....Elements 9 is pretty reasonable for what you get.

. . . this does though.

And it's absolutely free.

It's web based so there's no need to download it and you can use it anywhere that you can access the internet.

In fact, just click on the link, bookmark the page that opens and you're way.

Might be worth a look and trying out before you part with any readies!
