Photoshop crop tool makes file a smart object.

Hi Guys,
I think I might have asked this before but suddenly and for reasons entirely of its own, Photoshop froze on me this afternoon; I was saving a crop preset, requiring a restart to get rid of it. Since then, it has started saving cropped files as smart objects which is a nuisance that I don't want.
This has happened to me before and I'm sure that there's a really straightforward fix but I can't remember what it is.
Any ideas please?

It might correct itself if you switch everything off and leave for a while then turn back on again, but I think try uninstalling and reinstalling Jester - when I get a problem like this I have found that this is the best solution.
The Object selection tool doesn't need you do do anything more than draw the rectangle round the object. The tool itself isolates the object which you can then just copy and paste. The Crop tool which actually puts handles on each side of the frame just needs the arrow top right on the tool bar to be clicked with the mouse button to crop the image.
If you are drawing your own shape round an object then when it is as you want it just go to Image>Crop. And agin it will then be isolated for you to do with as you wish.
