Pocket wizzard and Vivitar 285

I just bough 4 Pocket wizzard plus 2's
And i had 2 Vivitar 285 HV.
Now to get these working i purchased 2 Metal Hot shoe replacements for the Vivitar flashguns as these come with a test button and a sync hole.

I have replaced the old hotshoes now with the new ones

Plugged in the leads from the pocket wizzards to the new hot shoe and they trigger by either the test button on the new hotshoe,or by the test button on the Pocket wizzards.
However when a pocket wizzards is on my camera they wont fire.

Channels are the same,Transmit mode is the same yet the pocket wizzards wont trigger them

Off camera fine but on camera it wont
Any ideas
I have to go to work now but will be back later

Just some food for thought here Dave.

The trigger voltage on the 285 is in excess of 600v DC...

Not recommended for use on any digital device unless you use something like a Wein Adapter.

Just a thought...

I fire these with my PW no problem, I got the viv to pw lead, mini jack on one end and some small strange viv fitting on the other (came with the viv)

I have had some quirks too, make sure you plug the lead into the flash, connector on your pw, not the both, and set the pw attached to your viv to recieve only,
hope this helps

Ty Steve

Got it sorted now just thought it might be a dodgy new hotshoe sync port.
But it was me

Thanks again mate
And you too Mike

Hey mike the viv is for off camera flash anyway mate, never used it on the camera.
I have the 550 and 580 for that.

But i believe the old viv 285 were unsafe for digital but these are the new ones that are safe.
Dont matter anyhow as they are only used on stands with PW.

Incorrect, the 285 is reasonably OK, it is the 283 that is the killer diller
