Post processing in linux

Hi Does anybody use linux OS if so what raw editing software do you use ? I'm relatively new to raw image processing and am interested in finding out what other people use. Any recommendations Would be welcome. Thanks Gra

Hi, For RAW processing the two main packages are Rawtherapee and Darktable. I've used both - each has it's benefits and it's often so close to call that it doesn't really matter which you choose. One word of caution - do check that you are installing the latest versions as older ones ( > 2 years ago) may not cope with latest file formats out of the camera [e.g. colour balances for Nikon NEF files may not be correct -- installing the latest version of software fixes that] For image processing -- GIMP If you install he Gimp-UFRAW package you can import RAW files directly into GIMP. There is a stan-alone UFRAW package that allows editing of RAW files, but it's not as fully featured as Rawtherapee and Darktable. I may be biased, having used GIMP for 15+ years, but I find it does everything I need; I tried using Photoshop on a friend's PC and found it very similar but with a few annoying quirks -- I guess you get used to one package and differences really grate. There are many extras available for GIMP -- one you could look at is G'MIC -- provides a big bundle of features (but some of the more exotic ones do take a little while to run). Cheers for that guys, using raw therapee at the moment, I'll have to take a look at full circle for the tips and not tried gimp although got it on my linux mint OS. Couldn't get on with darktable might have another go as that was the first one I tried and know a little bit more since then. Cheers again Gra
