My beautiful printer developed a minor paper feed fault and can't find anyone in Sheffield who will actually repair Epson Printers, contacted Epson and yes, they would do it, for significantly more than the cost of a new printer. The one that is now sat on the floor, feeling neglected and sorry for itself is an Epson Stylus Photo 1500W A3+ for which I have literally just purchased new ink sets. So if anyone knows where I might get it repaired, relatively locally, answers on a post card, or in the comments below

I have ordered a replacement, which I have just been advised will be arriving tomorrow, getting a little excited. Epson Expression HD 15000 A3+, if anyone has one perhaps they could offer me some advice in terms of the two ink set options i.e. you can use either the 378 set or the 478 set which has Red & Grey and presumably you have to take two other cartridges out from the 378 set, I sort of understand the additional cartridges are designed to give better colour transitions and crisper results, but I am still a little confused as to which would be the better combination and why there are 2 ink set options

My 1500 packed up some time ago and, like you, I had just bought a set of new inks. Never considered getting the printer repaired as that is always an expensive way.
I sold the printer on ebay and sold the inks there as well. Bought myself a P600.

My new Expression HD XP 15000 has literally just arrived, print cartridges currently charging. It is such a shame that repairs are so difficult, because it is literally the feed wheel and it is a great printer, it has served me well over 2 years, but I would expect longer service especially given that my trusty XP-620 just keeps chugging along.

The new one, still offers the option to print A3+ but is significantly lighter in weight and has a smaller foot print, which is a bonus. The other bonus being that the whole feed system is detachable, so I am gussing that if the same problem ocurrs I can just purchase a new feed system.

Keep your eyes on Ebay, there may be some ink for sale; that said, I haven't given up hope of having the old one repaired, just yet, fingers crossed

Maybe a quick Google search for general printer repairs in Sheffield might yield something?
Sometimes these multi-talented repair people can repair all makes of printers (not just Epson's), it doesn't sound too serious after all and although the repair would not be warranted by Epson your printer is out of manufacturers warranty anyway.
Makes me a little nervous as my Epson R2400 is over 7 years old and has printed thousands of A3's in its life.
Ebay wont yield much cash for the printer as the delivery will be expensive (unless you can sell it locally with buyer pick-up, the cartridges will sell ok though.
Good luck

Your minor paper feed issue may have been easily rectified by wiping the rubber rollers with Isopropyl Alcohol

I did that, I sang to it, I spoke nicely to it and I swore profusely at it, ocassionally it would take a sheet through, but most of the time it sat there sticking its tongue out at me

Clean rollers with method on soft cloth. Done this several times with my 1200.

No point paying for repair just buy new one .

I always use third party ink. I use a lot so very much cheaper. Never had problem

Interesting that you mention 3rd party inks, in my ever faithful Epson XP-620 always usethrid party inks, it is a work horse but I don't tend to use it for client photographs, mainly to test the outcome and of cours all my admin stuff.

The Stylus photo 1500W never used third party inks, mainl;y because it was used for client prints that said, I have just seen how fast the ink has gone down on this printer [Epson Expression HD XP*-15000] so I have just ordered to some third party inks and will make a direct comparison. One thing that motivated me to try thrid party was makin a mistake on the print settings.

I have printed off 3 calendars, yes they are late but the clients understand [thankfully] I am using matt A3 paper. It was printing away as it does and it is slightly slower than the 1500w, but I do have to say, despite my love for the 1500W, it does have superior quality relative to skin tones. Anyway, One about the month of March I forgot to ensure the paper setting was set to photo matt, it ran on standard The print cycle was significantly quicker and the the qualioty difference, very negligiable, so I printed the rest on the setting for standard paper. My next experiment is to see what happens when I try the same on glossy paper, I doubt the quality will be sufficient, but I have got to try it otherwise I will have sleepless nights thinking about it.

I rarely print on the highest quality in terms of ink, standard photo quality has always been fine and I dare say it has saved me a little money in terms of ink and definitely saved me muich time

One friend has retired as a research chemist for one of the major ink manufacturers. He warned me never to mix ink for Epson printers because there's a high probability that the inks will gel and block the nozzles. If you intend to use third-party inks, do it from the outset.

The problem with using non OEM inks is if the printer develops a fault the manufacturer will not repair it under warranty.
Could be safer to use genuine inks until the warranty expires...........your call

Not entirely true. The manufacturer would have to show that the non OEM ink/toner caused the problem, at which point you would have a case with the supplier of that ink.

You should never mix inks from different producers.

We did a lot of mail marketing when we had our studio so used a CISS from the outset with our office printer. This modestly-priced HP printer drank about 2 litres of bulk ink in its lifetime and never suffered from nozzle blockage.

After our old A3 size Epson printer was given "refilled cartridges, we had one blockage problem after another and it was taken to the cartridge shop, a branch of a major franchise, for them to sort out. It became too much trouble so I had no choice but to scrap the printer!
