... no I’m not trying to be controversial, those days are well behind me.
Those of you that are familiar with my photography probably already know, or strongly suspect I draw a lot of my inspiration from the art world.
Recently I started to learn to paint, and found I enjoy it, probably more than my photography.
I’m never going to have a highly photorealistic style, but what has surprised me is I’m much, much freer and instinctive than I am with my photo manipulations.
Anyway I digress, the reason for the thread I’m looking for inspiration, and tutorials. So I’d be interested in any links to artists works (not necessarily the ‘masters’ ) and if there are tutorials on their style all the better. Below are my first two attempts so you can see my style (and yes how much further I’ve to go )61515_1573919566.jpg

I`m a big fan of Roger Ballen.

Just love the way he mixes art and photography.

Hi, Nick.

I too am a portrait painter, currently using wtwfcolours after a complete break of 30 years...

On Friday a friend who is a pro wildlife artist and illustrator drew my attention to the amazing portraiture of Chinese artist... Jin Fengshi ....just Google his name and you will see what I mean...

I have had a go at oil painting in my teens but did not take it up again until I retired. I did not do any art classes any time as I was into maths and science. However, I rapidly discovered that my talents in painting were more limited than my ability in photography. I have thus dropped painting again. Some years ago I did produce a "photograph" with Painter. This was before this software was automated so I applied each brush stroke individually and it took 100 hours to produce.

The problem is that this was not really a photograph or a painting.
