Question: Sony Vs Canon

Gotta agree with strawman. If the competition has an ease of use feature then Sony ought to match or better it in order to compete. I bought an A300 because it offered out-the-box better value for money than anything else. If I was really serious about my photography though I think I might find Sony's 'system' lacking compared to Canon and Nikon.

Not exactly I suppose, but TLR and rangefinder do have live view in the sense of seeing what is happening all the time with no mirror to blank out the view. Canon even made an SLR with no swinging mirror - a pellicle mirror ? - which was popular for portraiture.

However I don't think the current electronic live view on SLR is used the same way, it seems to be more like studying the ground glass on a view camera.
As yet the eyelevel EVF available aren't that good, but the non SLR cameras with an adjustable LCD are close to TLR standards now, and they do give some indication of depth which the equivalent film cameras don't.
