RAW + JPEG very quick query

Sorry - I can't believe I've never thought about this before...

When taking simultaneous RAW + JPEG, does selecting the small JPEG setting also change the size of the RAW image recorded... or is the RAW file still the max size?

I am embarassed to ask but I am setting up my camera for the Christmas Party in a couple of hours and I have no access to image processing software. I need to take a JPEG so I can quickly download here in the morning, but I want the RAW files for myself to process another time.

Can anyone set me staight?

Thanks

Short answer No, the raw size should stay the same size.

But you may want to reconsider using the small option and go for something a bit bigger.

If I'm wrong .

a RAW is a RAW... pretty sure it's always MAX size

That's great - that's what I hoped.

I know what settings to use now.

Many thanks.

The RAW files are the same size regardless of the JPEG file size selected on most Canon EOS cameras. I believe that the only Canon SLRs to offer a choice of RAW file sizes are the 1Ds Mk III and the 1D Mk III - though whether you can select RAW file size independently of JPEG size I don't know.

Katie,

I meant the Raw was always the same size, but that you may want to use a bigger jpeg image than small.

Thanks everyone for your help yesterday. I've been able to use the small JPEGs to satisfy the desire for instant results!
