Good evening everyone

I use an Olympus OMD EM10 mk11 With an Olympus 12-200 lens...

Was wondering whether extension tubes would be any use for extending the range of this lens, or are they primarily for macro work?

If you think they would be suitable, can you recommend any makers?

Many thanks

Morning Jeff
I use a Newer set, really well made.
Even though I've a 30mm macro I still use them with my 14-150.
Avoid any without electrical contacts.

Remember that extension tubes will stop you being able to focus to infinity (when in use) - so whilst it will increase the range in terms of close focus distance, it will reduce range significantly at the opposite end.

Thanks, everyone... I'll have to check out some prices to see whether it's worth adding to my Xmas list 😁

Btw I bought a set by K&F Concept and although cheap they are good. I specifically chose a set which retained communication between camera body and the lens - some tubes don’t have electrical contacts so you lose this.

Something to be aware of is you get greater magnification for any specific length of extension tubes with wide angle lenses and less with telephoto lenses.

With several extension tubes on a wide angle sometimes focus is inside the front element!

Search Amazon extension tubes - Olympus and several are shown

I use Meike for my Nikon Z - they are OK at around £40 for 2.

You can get "auto focus" tubes with electronic contacts in the £35-40 range..

Auto focus generally only works if you pre-focus within about half an inch of your subject Sad

Depth of field is usually a few millimetres - or less.

I use extension tubes and close up filters, but extension tubes provide minimal magnification when used with telephoto lenses — which is unfortunately their main weakness
Close up filters give more magnification than extension tubes when used with telephoto lenses
Have a look here,a mine of info on tubes/close up`s
