Reflex camera update

According to photorumors.com, the Reflex manual film SLR camera kickstarter project is now dead, despite originally gathering a strong momentum. This 35mm reflex camera has an interchangable back which cases the film like some medium format cameras did.
I read that the reason for not coming to fruition is down due to lack of shutters.
Why have they not bothered to get in touch with Ricoh/Pentax, who are still committed to manufacturing DSLRs?
I think it would benefit Ricoh/Pentax too to have a brand new film camera offering.

The retro market (in anything) is a difficult one. It's not impossible - the resurgence of vinyl records is an example. But it is always niche and the costs can be astronomical because of a small consumer base.
