Most of us have owned more than one piece of photographic equipment over the years, so what have you owned and either regretted getting rid of - for whatever reason - or indeed regretted buying in the first place?

My biggest regret was losing the magnificent Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 when I switched from Canon to Fuji. That lens was so sharp! Fortunately, the Fuji 50-140 f/2.8 is a worthy substitute, perhaps 95/100 compared to the Canon's 100/100.Smile

As for buying, I have drawers full of small gadgets I thought were useful at the time, especially for use in a studio scenario...

So what have you regretted?

The miniscule Panasonic GM1. I owned two of those, the second being the rare - in the UK - GM1S with a blue/silver body and minor (alleged!) improvements.

My Sony A5100 is a good substitute and takes slightly better photos but still can't match the form factor of the GM1.

I sold a Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ 80 which I was using as an everyday 'pocket' camera. I bought a new Sony DSC HX 400v to replace it, but as it is as big as a small DSLR couldn't get on with it. Sold it & bought another DMC TZ80.
I also sold my Minolta 9000 af and lenses too soon for a few £ when digital arrived. Sad

In trying to reduce weight I was persuaded by the image quality of the Sony RX 10 III, but too quick afterwards to get rid of the Panasonic GX8 with my 8mm wide angle and 45mm macro.
I keep wondering if I should buy them again…

I bought a Leica M4 with 50 year engraving which I sold when I got married. I had an Olympus OM1 camera with a few lenses so one of them had to go. I needed the 300mm telephoto lens for my wildlife photography so the Leica was the logical choice as the one to go. I still have a few pangs...

Dumping my OM system and moving over to Nikon, the grass was not greener, just about the same but a silly expense.

Buying expensive studio lighting and then hardly using it, preferring speedlites Smile

Mine was moving from Olympus OM10 to Nikon F70 …. Yes shows my age

When I look back to my film days the Olympus produced outstanding results at a fraction of the cost of the F70.

Selling my Canon 300 F4 L to finance a 100-400L F5.6-8.0 to gain more flexibility.
That 300 was soooooo sharp, the 100-400 can't compete.

I regret losing my mind...

Seriously, I let go of a 5D MkII at one point that I loved to bits. The upgrade to the 5DS was worthy, but I should have kept the 5DII and had it converted to IR.

Buying - a load of old Bronica 4x5 gear. Hopeless...

The 5D series were really great cameras - and still are. I had the II and the III.

I had the 5D2. Great camera but I've kinda moved on.

Can I put the opposite viewpoint? I used Nikon kit for years and loved it. I moved over to MFT Panasonic kit a few years back (currently a G90) and have never regretted it! Less weight, easy to use and the IQ is just as good from a smaller sensor. What's not to like? My photos are about to be used on our new village website so long live MFT.
