Hi Guys...

I am using a Canon 5D which is getting old and i'm struggling to find a ringflash to use for insect hunting when the summer gets here, I find them for the EOS 5D mkII but not for the EOS 5D, can anyone help me with this please?

Neil.

They should all work with the 5D as well...

It's more of a lens fitment than a Camera fitment item, as Phil said the camera is not important, its how it attaches to the lens, normally a screw in adaptor and the flash then attaches to the adaptor.
I use a Macro lens that has a 55mm filter size, simply attach the adaptor ring (a selection will come with the ring flash) and snap on the flash, connect to the hot shoe and away you go.

Hi. If you don't mind something low cost then Neewer does a cheap ring light to fit a variety of cameras/lenses. While not an actual flash but an LED light, the unit has a control box that sits on your hot shoe and can either be set to 'flash' when the shutter opens or be set to continuous, so also useful for video. The whole hit retails for about £24 (UK) on Amazon and includes adapters for a wide range of filter screw sizes, the ring light itself just clipping onto the adapter. Takes 4 AA batteries and features an LED display of status and brightness setting (variable). Also includes four covers for the LED array, clear, diffuse white, diffuse blue and diffuse warming

Being an LED light there will be no TTL 'flash' metering, but as a light it can utilise the camera's own metering, especially if set to continuous.

Hope that helps.
