Don't often listen to the radio but yesterday I just happened to be listening to R2 and they played a song called 'New York Minute' written/sung by Don Henley of Eagles fame. Have to confess that I've never heard it before but , wow, it was depressing..........about a man who committed suicide. That said the musical composition and lyrics were superb... full of meaning about life and love, almost a poem set to music . Downloaded it and have now played it many times. Anybody else know it or do you have your own 'favourite ' sad Sad song ?

It's in Gaelic, but that'll not matter. Crucan na bPaiste by Karen Matheson. "Crucán na bPáiste" – 'the burial place of (unbaptised) children' – lies on a hilltop in Maamtrasna, overlooking Lough Nafooey, and Lough Mask in Ireland. It is a lament by a mother for a child she buries there during Aimsir an Drochshaoil ('The Time of the Bad Life' – the Famine).

Quote:It is a lament

Not familar with that one but certainly some of the Gaelic laments are very moving (even if you don't understand the language ! ). Many years ago, I stopped off at the Spean Bridge commando memorial, nr Fort William, and watched a 'lone piper' playing a lament which was extremly moving ...... there were only about 10 people there but many were dabbing their eyes !

'The living years' by Mike & the Mechanics. Reminds me of my dad who was a fantastic bloke, but I wish that I had asked more questions about his earlier life and his experiences in North Africa and Italy during ww2. He died in 1988.Sad

A fine song written by Eric Bogle, although I prefer June Tabor's version. Her rendering of another Eric Bogle song "And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda" is the one that always brings a lump to my throat.
