I am thinking of buying this Samyang lens for infrared work, does any one know if it has the "dreaded hot spot" problem with IR.

The website that I use to find out is by Kolari Vision. There are hundreds of lenses tested. Unfortunately your lens doesn't seem to be on there.
It is not 100% anyway because I took hundreds of good/decent IR photos with a Sigma lens before I found out that it was on their 'bad' list.
Unless you can try the lens before buying then you might have difficulty finding out.

This happened to me, I was looking for a micro 4/3 wide angle lens for my converted Panasonic GX7. I was on holiday and knew that a certain shop had a certain used Samyang lens at a good price on their website, I had my IR camera with me to try it but the shop had just sold it.
In the end I bought a used Panasonic 14 mm f2.5 lens and it is very good.

Thankyou, I had been on the Kolari vision site, it is not mentioned. I will get onto Protech, they do the IR convertions for me, they might have come across a customer that had one.
