Sd card

From what you have said it doesn't sound as tho you tried to download the files to a computer at home. If that is the case then you would be better asking a friend to download them to a computer as I doubt whether Walgreens is going to be able to get the best results from a card. I have no idea what settings the Walgreens process would use - perhaps you are better to ask someone at Walgreens to give you more guidance as to what is required.. The difference between Raw and Jpeg is that a Raw file is very much what it says - it is all of the data that was available when the photo was taken and as a result is a large file. A Jpeg is the raw data processed to produce a viewable photo (it is what you can see when you look at the 'replay' on your camera) and when it is produced all the data that has not been used is thrown out so is a much smaller file. The card should be formatted in the camera after every time you have used it and downloaded the images for the best results both for you and the camera's efficiency.

I am pretty knowledgeable with taking pictures .....and I learn pretty quick also...but what had us stumped...we were wanting to print some of the pics that had been taken ...so we removed the SD card....brought it to Walgreens....and kept getting the same error.. "No data detected" ..but we knew there was data on the card...bc we could view the pics on the camera. So I thought it might be something with formatting the card...that maybe we didn't format it correctly or maybe wasn't formatted at all.. But thanks to all the help ....I changed the setting from "RAW" to Jpeg. And will just download to computer and just order copies of images on Walgreens website directly from the computer.
And thanks for explaining what exactly RAW & Jpeg images are!
and every time I download pics & when SD card is empty. ... I will format card in the camera.
Thank yall so much for your help. I'm sure I will have more questions soon!

Quote:If your camera is writing to the card and you can see the images then you are probably ok. However to be sure once you have transferred all the images off the card, format the card in the camera not in the computer.
Adding some more background you are probably better off continuing to shoot RAW as better image quality is possible from RAW.
When you have downloaded the pictures to a computer ideally you should back them up (copy them) to a separate hard drive so that in the event of a computer fault or someone inadvertently deleting an imaging from the computer you still have a copy.
Most software has an ability to SAVE AS a jpg. "SAVE AS" keeps your jpg copy separate from the original RAW file.
Ideally you need to know what resolution etc the lab wants. These details are part of the SAVE AS function.
Copy the jpg images to a spare SD card and then visit the lab with the card.
