Just thought i would let anyone that's looking for a 32GB SD memory cards class10 Phillips with a 5 year warranty for £9.69 delivered, these are going at 7dayshop.com.
I was just thinking how much would the above have been 10 years ago??

Thanks for the tip Mike, whilst browsing that site i came across a Transcend 32GB SDHC 10 UHS-1 600x at £13.99 including delivery, worth a punt at that price Mike. Thanks again.

Wish I'd know this earlier, I just paid more for ones from ebay, separate sellers, one Transcend, the other Kingston. I chose different sellers with good feedback but one look at the packaging and labels and no way are they the real thing.

The invoice that came with them was identical so they'd come from same seller in reality. ebay, it would seem, is still awash with counterfeit cards. I bought them as they are supposed to be 45mb/s (more for odd times I do hd video not so much stills)

That's really handy, not just to test those cards, but I've been wondering about my front panel card reader v my external as well as some usb ports and time I got round to working out the fastest combos

How recent is your PC.

I built a new one a while back and all motherboards only come with one USB 3 front header, so I had the choice of a USB 3 card reader and 2 USB 2 front sockets or 2 USB 3 front sockets with a USB 2 card reader.

I went for 2 USB 3 front sockets and no card reader, plug in USB 3 card readers are dirt cheap anyway these days.

That bit of software is quite handy.

I think about 18 months old. There's a mix of USB 3 and USB 2 sockets. There's also a setting in the BIOS to do with XHCI USB controllers which I think means if you are only going to plug USB 2 devices in (which all but one thing of mine is) then it's better to set it one way than the other. I've not looked into it properly. Card reader is a Lexar USB 2.0 that does CF and SD only. The front card reader is part of one of those multi-function things that fits in a drive bay. Seems faster but awkward to get at.

A lot of the card readers built in are generally USB 2, even more so if they also includes a few USB3 sockets.

I would not bother altering the bios, with built in USB devices they tend to auto configure anyway.

I currently had a memory card labelled at 95 MB/s and looking for a replacement I see some also labelled at 170 MB/s and 300 MB/s

My current camera has a possible frame rate of 10 per second so will I see any visible / practical difference between 95 / 170 / 300 ?

I do not take videos so that is not a consideration.

I've found that some of the most modern cards don't work in older cameras. I have one large, fast card that won't work at all in a Nikon D3 but it's fine in more modern cameras.

Some cameras have a large buffer - 2 Gig is quite normal in "pro" models - so unless you're shooting very fast indeed, the speed of the card is irrelevant. In our portrait studio, our oldest and slowest cards worked just fine. Look up the buffer size and convert that figure into number of images.

Thanks.
I sensed that would be the advice Smile
