Should Britain return to the Imperial measurement system?

When we had the studio, our sales room and UK frame manufacturers worked in Imperial but continental makers worked in metric.

It was inconvenient that a 20x16 inch wasn't the same as 50x40cm so we bought Deknudt frames only in extremis!

If we change speed signs from mph to km/h it will many years before people realise it.

I for one look forward to cruising at 120 on the motorway. Tongue

On the border between Norn Iron and the Republic, they have signs warning drivers about the units applied to speed limits. But then, how many drivers bother to look at road signs?

If you are using a good Sat Nav, it will tell you the speed limit in whatever units you want. Mine also warns me of speed traps. A long time since I drove at over 100mph (in Germany).

When we first started to use the metric system I went to my local supermarket and asked for 6 ounces of ham, the young assistant replied, "we don't do ounces, we do Grammes", I said well give me 6 ounces of them. The she weighed an ammount of ham and passed it to me saying "Would you like anything else Sir" I replied yes I'd like 10 centimeters of Black Pudding, I could see that she was not ammused.

Ah yes, the fractions... I make furniture as a hobby and still marvel at how American colleagues manage to work in fractions.

After all, the old measures are based around the human body.

Based on the above, go for it. But only if the imperial measures are adjusted to suit the 10% + increase in average height and greater increase in average weight over the last 150 years.
