New guy here. I am wondering if anyone can tell me why my Sigma 18-300 mm lens has started making a rattling noise? It will do that when I turn on my Canon 7d mark ii or turn it off. Even taking the SD card out will cause the rattling sound. The lens is working fine other than that. It just seemed to start doing this. I am not sure if it needs sent in or what it needs. I updated the firmware today also. I heard it was something to do with the OS part. Hoping someone can help me out.

Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve, Welcome to ePhotozine.

Assuming its not also getting warm and wanting to isolate for 14 days, then its probably the Optical Stabilization mechanism spinning up and spinning down when turned on or off ( pulling the card out also turns the camera off) - Also it may rattle when the camera has gone to sleep and you half press the shutter to wake it.
Some OS/IS/VR systems do make a natural slight noise in such situations, however a significant increase in noise may indicate wear or something failing. Are slower stutter speed hand held images as sharp as before?

Good Luck,
Stuart
