Hi Everyone,
just a quick one, ive been asked to do a christening (first ever job) and im considering getting the sigma 24-70mm 2.8 would this be suitable? ive got a nikon 35mm 1.8 already, the only other one ive got is my kit 55-200mm vr or would a sigma 70-200mm 2.8 manage it. any advice would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Carl

I use the Nikon 24 - 70 2.8 in nearly all "Family" occasions . Brilliant lens . Damian

I use a mixture of Nikon and Sigma lenses.

As it happens, like Daffy above, my 24-70mm f/2.8 is the Nikkor, but my experience with other Sigma lenses is such that I imagine their version of the 24-70mm will be pretty good.

For christenings, I suspect that your 70-200mm would be just too long for some of the shots you might want to take.

You will get a lot of use out of a 24-70 if you are using a full frame camera. The equivalent for a crop sensor camera would be a 17-55mm f/2.8. I used the Nikkor version of that as my "standard" lens on my D300 before I got the D3s (but unfortunately it is a DX lens, not suitable for FX format).

The Sigma 24-70 is excellent on a Nikon full frame camera this is an example of whats attainable.

It will be just fine I used it on a D80 & D300 too with great results.

The thread is a bit old now but I have just noticed that the Sigma is almost the same price as the Nikkor equivalent "in the street". (Between 1500-1600).

That being so, has anyone done a comparison test?

By the way, Carl, how did the christening shoot go and which lens did you eventually decide to use?

Huh? Just checking Warehouse Express, the Nikon 24-70 2.8 is 1198, the Sigma 24-70 2.8 HSM is 618.

Sorry Steve, I was not being clear in that post. I was looking at the OP's "or would a sigma 70-200mm 2.8 manage it?" question and meaning that lens rather than the 24-70.

Apologies.
