I am looking to buy a Sigma DG 70-300 APO macro lens, it says Minolta-A fit will this fit my camera which is Sony A mount?

If it says it is an A mount then it will fit your camera A Mount. Sony bought out Minolta but retained the same mount which is why it will fit.

Thanks for you're replies while waiting contacted sigma who informed me it would fit my Sony a55 camera but it might need updating ?

That would be firmware - downloaded from the Sony site, plug your camera into the computer with a USB lead and follow the directions for firmware update.

No, that would be firmware from the Sigma site. Or what Sigma call a rechip
