Recently, the cursor jumps back, usually around half a line to a line, sometimes more, when typing. It happens mainly in Open Office, but also with Thunderbird and HTML kit, so it is not confined to a single piece of s/w. This is a very common problem with a lot of laptops. - Can be caused by alot of things.
Turn off tap to click on the touchpad. Go to Mouse properties in the Control Panel and go to the tab at the very right.
You can also turn off the touchpad completely if you don't use it by holding the Fn key and pressing (normally) F7.

It happens to me loads on my netbook my sausage thumb hits the pad all the time, then when I have been using a different keyboard I end up hitting the caps lock key when I return to my netbook.
