Why aren't there any DSLR's that have square chips? Am I unusual, preferring square images? With 4:3 and 3:2 there's a lot of lens going to waste and even more with the smaller chips.

Well 35mm has been 3:2 for about 80 years without too many complaints!! Lol!! Wink

Maybe some of the medium format digital backs are square. I haven't checked and at a mere 12k you should be laughing. Alternatively you could always crop ...lol

just crop ... dslr's are good enough quality for you to crop sightly and not loose much res. I suspect if they were all square people would be moaning about wanting rectangular chips! Wink

Don't forget the classical "Golden Mean" is 1.618:1 .... just a little wider than 3:2 and a little narrower than widescreen TV.
