I use Canon 7D and 5D cameras of various generations, at present with a Sigma 70 to 200 f2.8, and a Canon 300 f4.

I'm finding that I miss the reach that the 7Ds give me with their crop factor when using the 70 to 200 on the 5Ds. I'm loving my move to full frame, even though for wiring pictures to a news desk I carry the 7D for that alone.

OK, I don't expect L lenses from a second hand version of this lens, but anyone got thoughts on overall sharpness, water resistance and all round usability.

It's primarily going to be for cycle sport, and picking out interesting folk on crowds at events, festivals, remembrance Sunday. Not pixel peeping jobs, as all for local paper use.

Of course, for actual stage work, the existing lenses can stay for their larger apertures.

I sold a 70-200/2.8 and moved to the Tamron to save weight and release some cash - I have never regretted it. The Tamron isn't completely pixel sharp away from the centre at the long end but does have very good IS performance and, impressively, almost zero CA even on my current Eos 5Ds.

Glad nobody has said that I should consider using a selection of prime lenses, and zooming with my feet. Some days my 85mm wouldn't cut it.

Sorry if the wrong cut and paste confused anyone.

Well, it arrived at 7 last night, and by 8:15 the first images off it were published in a regional paper!

It's ridiculously lightweight, I thought MPB had sent an empty box. Not exactly L build or weight.

One of the needs was for a lens that could be used for distant shots of RTCs etc. Managed it's first one perfectly, 10,000 ASA by street light at 1/25 at 300mm hand held.1464_1578399239.jpg
