The lens you cannot live without

Hmm, currently my 500mm f/4.

Would have done the joke about the glasses but a few got there before me on that one.

However, really I could live without all of them, but I wouldn't like to. Every single one has it's use and if it is the one I need for the shot, then it's the favourite at the time. I hate travelling light because it means making a choice.

A fair point. The lenses I quoted above are practically permanently mounted on the cameras mentioned.

However, if I am photographing my cats then the 6.2-66.7mm zoom lens on the S9600 becomes my favourite combination.

I keep going back to the cheap plastic canon 50mm f1.8
Its Sharp & F1.8 and on an EOS400 (1.6CF) gives me a nice portrait lens in many low light situations.
When i can afford it though i'd really like to not live without a Canon 24-105 L.

Combined with the Canon 5D, they are stunning together.

Ditto with the 5D Mk II.

For the first time, ever, in all the many years I have done photography, I now own a decent 'walkaround' lens... which, incidentally, is also pretty good for video. Smile

17-40 F4L

99% of my architecture and 90% of landscape use it, and many recent portraits too.

I have two - a Minolta 50mm F1.4 and a Canon 180mm macro lens. Both of them are a pleasure to use.

You can live without a lens, Just bore a 2mm hole in your body cap, Hey Presto, You have a pinhole camera.....Smile

Unless your talking super zooms.....Yuk ! ! ! Chances are you'll have a favourite for particular jobs.....!

That said you might try using a particular favourite for every occasion possible, Only changing it at gunpoint....Sad

My Nikon 24 - 70 f2.8 is without any doubts my most favourite lens.

I'd use it for wildlife, If the wildlife would come close enough..Wink

All of them!!! because they are specialist lenses for specific tasks.
But the one I seem to use most and leave on the camera is the Sigma 2.8 24-60.

Quote:My 80-200 f2.8 nikor all glass and metal about 20 years old weighs more than 50-500 sigma.

I didn't think there were any others about. This gets dismissed everytime I suggest it. I love it. Super lens.

The 17-55 f/2.8 on the D300 is my most used, closely followed by the 80-200.

Now that's one I would love to learn not to live without, however even the price of one second hand makes me feel a little faint lol
