While I will eventually upgrade my iPhone 7, I use my 35mm equipment for different types of photographic pictures.

I would buy another m43 Panasonic. The most user-friendly brand, with a great range of lenses.

There are a lot of problems I think for anyone who is keen on photography with using a phone. It is very difficult to keep a phone straight, i.e. a lot of folk when taking pictures with a phone slant the phone top away from themselves which in such a small screen gives people very large heads and very small feet, and that effect is replicated by any slight tilt in any direction. The colour varies a great deal from phone to phone - once you have sorted your colour out it will probably be OK but over Lockdown I have enlarged and printed photos from phones for others and that keepsake is very hard work to get to anything like an accurate representation. And what I have achieved I wouldn't be satisfied with for myself - although the folk themselves seem to be delighted - and I would be happy with something which others would not accept. If you simply want a record of an event then they are handy, so if you can live with large heads, crooked walls creammy whites and backgrounds always in sharp focus then go for a phone. Otherwise may I suggest a bridge camera?!

Personally I would buy another DSLR.

That can happen with a DSLR, of course.

Mirrorless.
Having gone from many years with a dslr, then migrated to mirrorless some 5 years ago, I'd never go back to a dslr...

I went from film SLR to mirrorless M4/3 years ago and I've owned both Panasonic and Olympus. However in direct answer to your question about buying a new camera - another mirrorless m4/3 they are just so portable and flexible. Given the advances in technology etc between Olympus and Panasonic it would come down to price. Another big influencing factor in the choice is I've quite an investment in M4/3 lenses it would cost too much to switch now.

I have a Canon DSLR 5D4 and recently bought a Sony ML camera and lenses (to reduce weight). I do have an iPhone but use it for telephone calls not photography.
