That guy is Chris Steele-Perkins, hardly an amateur...and good photography has always been about knowing what to throw away after all.

Some of the comments, below the article itself, make entertaining reading!

There are a couple where the term 'Whoooooosh' would so aptly apply.

I wonder if we could get away with adding a "whoooosh" comment on there? lol.

One good picture from four rolls of film - if that was my average I'd give up.

I managed one last year! So exciting ...

Oh hang on ... no it was the year before. :-(

So if my editing is really really extreme (I throw away all my images except for one), am I a really really good photographer then? Wink

There is what you consider a good photo and what a Photo Editor considers a good photo....there is little common ground.

Out of interest Keith, how many good pictures would you expect to get from four rolls of film?

Well in old terms that would be a days shooting, so if there was one 'earner' then that would be a result, but that's a shot that is nigh on spot on.

If it was studio work then 60% of all shots should be useable.....that does mean they get used but they should be in focus etc.

There was a TV documentary a couple of years ago on Rankin, although I think it was on BBC 4 so I was probably the only person who watched it!

He said he took about 10,000 photographs each year and probably only got about a dozen he was really satisfied with. Seriously below par I reckon.
