The Statue

I didn't understand why the 2nd kid was a Girl, then realised it was not her sons depicted but actually 3 random kids. "The figure of Diana, Princess of Wales is surrounded by three children who represent the universality and generational impact of The Princess' work."
Actually i think its quite a nice detailed statue that depicts her as a strong looking person trying to help others. I'm sure many will want kids to stand around the statue and take photos with the statue. The fact that the 3rd kid is hidden means you really need to see it in 3D or at least not straight on to capture it all.
According to one site her sons privately raised funds to pay for the statue to commemorate what would have been their mothers 60th birthday. Personally i think that's a good way of remembering their mum and wanting to share that aspect of her life.

I don't really think that it is anything like her. In private I think she usually wore trousers/slacks, her hair was rarely that close to her head and the kind of upward glance from a face looking slightly down was the epitome of her. Perhaps her sons didn't know her that well although I don't for one minute think she didn't shower them with love and cuddles. Maybe I am cynical, but I think her sons were part of her weaponry. Certainly didn't capture how beautiful she was. And none of the children were from the ethnic minority with whom she worked for a great deal of her time.

It reminds me of Father Stone's portrait of Father Ted.
