Hi guys,

I was wondering is it possible to take a tripod on a plane as hand lugage?

I am going from London Gatwick to Krakow in Poland. My tripod is 26cm and weighs 500g.

I have tried contacting british airways and asking but it's no use.

I'm preferably looking for answers from people who have had experience, but welcome all replies.

Cheers in advance

You can take a bicycle as hold luggage. I don't see a camera tripod being a problem (from the airline's perspective Wink

You can't take tweezers or nail clippers.........I suspect you have NO CHANCE of getting it into the cabin

Not on my recent trips, wrap it well and put it in your suitcase.

Even several months ago, before the recent increase in security, a friend of mine was told he would have to check in his tripod...very much doubt you'd get away with it.

As stated, you will not be able to take a tripod on as hand luggage. I have always packed mine in the case without any problems. In fact if you book a tripod in as a seperate item it has to go in as 'unusually shaped item' like pushchairs, etc.

Mine is a lot bigger and heavier than that and it has been in my case many times, not sure why you want to take it as hand luggage. It'll be going the same way again in about 10 days time.

Tend to agree, mine always travels in my suitcase or backpack without problems.

My Velbon Luxi fits inside my backpack (Mini Trecker)and it's been all over the world as hand luggage, including at least a dozen flights this year. It's been inspected on many occasions, though. With new restrictions, well, I'm not sure. I got a tiny bottle of lens cleaning fluid confiscated and had problems with the small screwdriver that come with Lee filter kits.
