Hi all,

I've been a member of EPZ for quite some time now (12 years according to my profile info!), but the past couple of years I had drifted away from both the site, and from photography in general.

Several reasons why, with work being the main one! It's all been a crazy time, especially these last few months, but I have decided that I need to make time for 'me', and to start making time for my hobbies etc. I have a keen interest in astronomy, and have spent many an evening this year out under the stars with my telescope. However, I wanted to reignite my passion for photography! So, here I am - back again!!

I have just upgraded my trusty old Canon 400D with a 7D MkI. Was a good deal off MPB, and a small tax rebate paid for it!

So, hopefully you will see more of me around here now, and I hope to start uploading some pics from the 7D as soon as I can get out with it!

Thanks all

Nige

Welcome back, a rest is much needed sometimes from our hobbies.
I hear you about work, always gets in the way of stuff we want to do

Welcome back, Nige, and congrats on finding the enthusiasm for photography again, and on the acquisition of an excellent bit of kit!

Welcome back.

I think many of us have struggled to capture images recently. For various reasons I had not had any holiday for over two years but last week went to the peak district. It was a family event so that came first. However, on the Monday we visited Matlock Baths and decided to go on to the Tramway Museum. As we drew into the site my wife said "one of you did check that it was open?" At that same moment we all saw the large Closed sign (it was open Tues, Wed & Thurs but not Monday). On Wednesday, we decided to to visit Ladybower Reservoir and generally take in the Peak District Scenery but after travelling just 8 miles out of Chesterfield a tyre blew and it was a full 3 hours waiting for rescue plus another couple of hours before returning to our holiday accommodation in Chesterfield so no photographs then either. In fact the next morning was taken up waiting for the Garage to call and the return of the hire car. After this it was time to head for home. So lots of family pics but no landscapes at all.

Thanks for the warm welcome back!! Looking forward to getting back to a hobby that has been part of my life for 35 years!! My (second hand!) 7D is arriving today! Really excited about it! Like a kid on Christmas Eve!

Dave - that sounds like a real collection of disasters!! What a shame! They say things come in three's don't they! Hopefully now all your bad luck is out of the way, things will start looking up! Matlock and the Peaks are such a beautiful area, so such a shame you missed the best bits! I live a 30 minute drive from Matlock, so perhaps take all that part of the world for granted - I will have to get back up there myself!

Cheers

Update:

The 7D and BG-E7 grip arrived at 10am this morning! Battery is now fully charged, and I am starting to take a look at all the functions! Quite a step up from the 400D! I struggled to decide on a 7D or the newer 70D. A used 70D would have used all my budget up, so the the 7D it was. Still got £100 left to spend, which is going toward either a Canon 85mm 1.8, or a 10-18mm . . . . haven't decided yet lol!!

I think you'll like the 7 - I had one before moving up to a 5 - a cracking camera which I really enjoyed using.
