Weekly IL Black and White Challenge - ending 8pm Wednesday 27th January 2021 - through a window

24 Jan 2021 9:24PM
Okie dokie. So, this week I'm experimenting with a new style for me.
Never really done any low key stuff before - love to see it, but never really been able to pull it off.
But I'm secretly quite pleased with this effort. So let's see what you guys think - in for a penny, in for a pound.
Here goes....

My favourite (and for the duration of Covid, only) model sitting at a window table in a cafe, image shows the street behind me reflected in the window through which the image was taken.

Three Windows

I managed to get three different windows in the shot. "Where are they?" I hear you ask.

1. There is the main glass one
2. I have Windows on the laptop
3. The laptop is currently showing the 1982 version of John Carpenter's "The Thing" and the name of the character from the film currently on screen is "Windows". Smile

Also as the challenge title suggests "through a window" my hand is going through an opening window and "The Thing" is playing through Windows. Grin

A collection of nicely framed images there. I've slightly lost track of some names behind the scenes so excuse me if use usernames as well in case I made any mistakes:

1. Dave (Ryder) - first off the blocks with a nice candid shot

2. Mark - very wistful image relevant to these times

3. David ImageryOnly - a very supernatural shot with a nice exposure as well as the silhouettes

4. Linda - back on form again, great starbursts maybe telling us there's some light at the end of the tunnel

5. Phil - love the framing and the shaping

6. Somnath - fantastic chiaroscuro and another very wistful image

7. Malc - great reflections and I'm sure your model is the best

8. Eddie - what an imagination, very cleverly done

9. Dave (B&T) - nice lines and shades, sorry about the snow coming in

And the result is - the lighting in Somnath's self-portrait is outstanding, and really picks out the character and a sense of longing to be out on the other side. The subtlety of the smoke was the icing on the cake for me, so well done and over to you for the next one.
