A friend of Kerry's who knows the area well, has described some areas to visit.

Tully cross and Renvyle are stunning. Kylemore you know. the "private road" marked on the Kylemore to Galway Road leaves you in a beautiful remote corrie valley called Gleninagh, Derryclare lake has a lovely walk up derryclare mountain, starting from a little road just beside Benlettery Hostel (Galway Clifden road, near Recess (Sraith salach) Derryclare lake photo point you sent me is a lay-by about 5 miles from Maam Cross, straight on going from Galway to Clifden. Lough Inagh too is just incredible, even nicer, the Inagh Lodge Hotel does lovely food.

The "private road" is about 1 mile before Inagh Hotel coming from Leenane/Kylemore on right. Park sensibly, close gates and locals will welcome visitors/walkers.

The coast road from Renvyle back towards Leenane is also amazing, there's a beach on the entrance to Killary Harbour, about 3 miles out of Tully cross and sunset fires straight up the middle, onto Mweelrea, Connaught's highest peak. Oh and Doo Lough and Delphi across the estuary going from Leenane to Louisburgh (and on to Westport past Croagh Patrick) is probably one of the best most scenic drives on this earth, no matter what weather, the light is shadowy, misty, lots of streams - incredible. You should head home via this drive, adds 1-2 hr to the journey.

Thanks Kerry
