1968/9, my first year at Warwick University. It was still a building site, there were just 3,000 students, but we had a social building. Suzanne played on a nearly constant loop, it's the song that brings back a big chunk of my life. Not necessarily my favourite song now, but the most important.

'Sisters of mercy is my favourite but the ultimate 'doom' lyrics are in the bleak 'Dress rehearsal rag.' I just love it!

'Hallelujah.'

Actually, that and 'First we take Manhattan' are the only tracks by him that I can bear to listen to.

So long, Marriane. Very moving, I believe it was written/sung close to her death.

He toured with Jennifer Warnes and one of the songs was "Joan of Arc" in which they both featured. I certainly enjoyed his work with Jennifer Warnes.

The Partisan. I had just left school at 17 and, walking into a record store, saw this life-size cardboard cutout of a bloke in a dinner jacket. It was so odd given the usual 'garb of the day' and I asked who it was. Leonard Cohen came the reply. Listened to the first track and loved his music ever since.
