What lenses

11 Sep 2012 12:22PM
What lenses would take for a few hours in London at evening time?
The last couple of times, I took 19-35 and 28-75.

Would it be worth carrying also a heavy 300 prime?
I also have lighter lenses, a 70-200

and a 28-200 Tamron, not the quality of any of my other lenses.

I depends on what you are shooting. Architecture would suit the wider lenses, people would suit the longer ones (in my opinion).

If i'm going walkabout, I'd tend to carry one lens only (of your selection, either the 28-75 or the 70-200). Of course you would need to consider light levels, so faster lenses would be better.

I'd say the the 300 prime would be of limited use in the city (possible exception being the long river shots).

Many thanks Stuart. I think I will leave the 300.
and think about the rest.

15-85 covers most of my needs (on a Canon 7D crop sensor). If I'm specifically doing the bridges I'll stick the Sigma 10-20 in my bag as well. If I'm just wandering I'd probably take the 70-200 f4 instead of the Sigma. In the evening I would definitely have my tripod and remote with me.

Thanks Dave,
I sold my full frame, and will have to wait a few weeks until my new one is available.
So meanwhile am using a 1.5 crop sensor. Never desired a really wide lens, hope the 19-35 will be wide enough.
plus 28-75 and 70-200 like yours will cover most things. Will have my tripod and remote, and travel by car.

A few fairly fast primes, and a shotish fairly fast telephoto zoom.

17-35mm and a 50mm would do me I think - if I was feeling lazy I might just take the 50mm as it doesn't weight anything.
