I've never handled a D50 but a friend has the D80 and it's a superb camera.
The 10mp is certainly worth having, you'll notice a lot more detail in your picture files.
The D80 handles exactly like my D200 but for a lot less money Smile

Darren. The D80 is a significantly higher spec body to the D50... Do it. You know you want to Wink

I have a D80 and I love it. At first it took a while to find everything but now I find it easy to navigate and the picture quality is superb. I have never used a D50 so can't comment on that.

Hi Darren,

Also have the D80 and agree its a great camera with loads of features and an excellent 10mp sensor giving excellent images. Not used the D50 either but the increase in pixel count should warrant the upgrade. Go for it.

I have been mulling over this myself - I have the D50 and it's a great camera, but...
Aftertherain's comments really make me think seriously about an upgrade

Dazzaman

I had a D80 and intend getting another, but what really annoyed me was this - Help - Dead Pixel in my new Nikon D80 I am not putting the camera down, just merely bringing this to your attention.

If you do get one, check for hot/dead pixels as soon as you can as this particular problem with the D80 caught me out twice!

The D80 is a great camera, far more advanced than the D50. Go for it, you know you want to!

Not long had my D80 as a replacement for a D100 that got knocked over on my tripod, and so far so good,(about 1000 images so far ) no hot pixel's and results are fine with the larger 10mp over the 6mp the quality is better but I was more than happy with the 6mp.

the D80 is simply fab. I had a canon 300d b4 and it was g8 cam but it collapse and I didn't like the 400D so I decided to switch to Nikon, I was considering the D80 and D200 then I went for the D80 not for the price but bacause I like the newer design of the cam and software inside and plus I wanted shot wireless and the D200 doesn't.
