What size and make external hard drive is best?

So what make of external hard drive do you all recommend? Looking for a capacity of 1-2TB.

Nothing slow as I need to open a file instant for editing and may want to do video editing too. Was thinking of the Lacie Quadra as my first choice but seeming Lacie have gone downhill and lots of people are saying their drives have failed.

1-2TB hard drives are not as reliable as those with lower capacities i.e. 320-750GB. Think carefully before you decide thats the way to go

Just bought 2 500GB WD Passport Essential portable hard drives. These are purely for back up. One copy on each. 140 the pair.

I'm intrigued. What is and how do you set up a RAM disk for photoshop? Is 8 GB RAM enough?

I'm in the market for some back-up storage, anyone know if a NAS drive is more reliable than a standard hard disk back-up drive?
I'm thinking about 1TB.

Shouldn't think there would be much difference as the drive would be pretty much the same. though the NAS drive can be anywhere in the house which possibly offers some protection against theft or flood.

Thanks for your reply Chris.
I thought the NAS drive had to be plugged into the router, is this correct?

Depends - I have a pair. One is connected into the router the other is on a wireless link over the other side of the house as backup.
